Aquatic Therapy

The first and only program of its kind in Highland County, aquatic therapy combines the benefits of therapy with the advantages of a warm-water environment. The advantage of this type of therapy is the reduction of weight bearing forces. Water lessens the effects of gravity and reduces body weight up to 90 percent, lessening any stress to injured or tender joints, encouraging relaxation and reducing the dangers of overexertion. The aquatic therapy program is a specialized program that provides many benefits including, but is not limited to:
  • Promoting muscle relaxation
  • Decreasing muscle spasms
  • Increasing ease of joint movement
  • Decreasing the forces of gravity to make walking easier and to decrease stress on the joints
  • Increasing circulation and cardio-respiratory function
  • Strengthening of muscles
  • Building endurance
  • Restoring range of motion
  • Enhancing gait training
  • Improving general conditioning and instructing patients in proper body mechanics
  • Increasing body/posture awareness and balance

 People of all ages can benefit from aqua therapy, including anyone with the following conditions:
  • Bone, joint or muscle disorders
  • Neurological disorders
  • Orthopedic injuries

Mike Boone

Education:
Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy
The Ohio State University (1990)

Certifications:
Physical Therapist licensed by the State of Ohio OT/PT/AT Board.

Bio:
Mike is a Leesburg native, graduating from Fairfield High School in 1986. He is married with three children, living in Hillsboro. Mike treats patients with orthopedic issues, and specializes in aquatic physical therapy, and is certified in McKenzie back protocol techniques.
